Coreix Limited
Coreix Limited, Paul Davies - Senior Network Engineer
During a recent RIPE NCC conference we had a meeting to discuss academic research into diminishing Internet resources. This prompted the Coreix engineering department to re-analyse its IP assignment and usage policies, following a brainstorming session we proposed implementation of IPv6 services on the Coreix network. IPv6 is not a solution which can be implemented globally immediately. However we felt that adoption of the proposed new standard should take place as early as possible so that we could become familiar with the new technology. This is in contrast to many other companies who implement desperately when they are being pressurised by various factors. In these circumstances the solution often fails to evolve naturally and problems can occur. We had one large advantage, which was hardware related; our routing infrastructure largely consists of Juniper equipment, which has native IPv6 support. So there was nothing holding us back from starting to implement and offer IPv6 services. We had outstanding support from Tinet's provisioning department, who supplied the details of the newly provisioned service within a matter of hours. The beauty of the Tinet service is that they provision the IPv6 service over the same circuit as our IPv4 transit. Due to Tinet's excellent service we were up and running, advertising our prefix and routing IPv6 traffic within the same day.
