Ethernet Extension
Product Overview:
Ethernet Extension is a wholesale service aimed at supplying last-mile connectivity to international destinations for regional service providers, systems integrators and resellers that need to fulfill global Ethernet requirements and deliver international connectivity services to corporate customers.
Schematic of Tinet VPLS service connecting four customers sites in three continents (in a fully meshed LAN-to-LAN configuration), through Ethernet interconnect agreements with local access providers.
To know more…
This is achieved by leveraging Tinet’s vast network footprint and through a number of Ethernet Network to Network Interconnection (NNI) agreements that Tinet has developed with numerous providers worldwide.
The Tinet Ethernet Extension service delivers end-to-end connectivity all the way down to end-user buildings and is the ideal solution for regional service providers that compete for VPN business, as they face a major challenge procuring local tails quickly and cost effectively.
NETWORK ARCHITETURE
The service is delivered through Tinet’s global IP and Ethernet backbone and Tinet’s Layer- 2 Ethernet Network to Network Interconnects (NNIs) with national access providers and regional carriers worldwide. By partnering with Tinet, regional service providers can meet the requirements of their international corporate customers and offer a solution that is simple and reliable, allowing corporate customers to effectively achieve LAN-to LAN interconnection forming one virtual LAN, based on Ethernet.
TECHNOLOGY
Ethernet Extension is an Ethernet Layer-2 connectivity service that transparently transports different protocols.
The service also supports VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) technology for multipoint connectivity.
The VPLS efficiently extends the customers’ LAN transparently across the WAN, through a full mesh of MPLS transport tunnels between PEs (Provider Edge routers). Tinet’s VPLS shares a common set of core tunnels thanks to MPLS label stacking technology. RSVP and LDP are the MPLS signalling protocols used on Tinet’s backbone while path protection is guaranteed by the MPLS Fast-reroute algorithm.
Ethernet Extension is a Layer-2 service, with guaranteed bandwidth, meaning customers can fully control the Layer-3 (IP addressing, I-BGP, BGP, DNS) and can implement their own CoS on top of it.
