Ethernet Private Line

Product Overview:

Tinet’s Ethernet Private Line (EPL) service is a layer 2 transport service supporting both point-to-point and any-to-any connectivity thanks to VPLS technology.

Ethernet Private Lines

Example of a customer using three different VLAN over a single 10GE port to set up three diversely routes Ethernet circuits for the following applications:

  1. To connect a remote customer in Miami, over a GE port , using Tinet router as a local virtual PO.
  2. To connect and peer directly with a remote peering partner in Hong Kong.
  3. To connect and peer at a remote Exchange Point (e.g. LINX) with no need to deploy , colocate and support a remote router.

With a billing on a per-usage basis, Tinet’s EPL delivers SDH-like quality of service together with the scalability, flexibility and cost efficiency of Ethernet technology across over 100 Points of Presence in USA, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific.

EPL APPLICATIONS

The service is suitable for the transport of any data traffic supporting Ethernet transport, including Voice and real-time Video over IP between multiple locations.
Tinet EPL service is the ideal solution for:

Point-to-Point Link: Replacing a traditional leased line with in built in protection thanks to MPLS fast-reroute protection mechanism.

Point To Multipoint: Single port at hub site can be used to connect multiple sites reducing additional hardware and maintenance cost.

Remote Peering: Allowing Tinet’s customers to establish private peering sessions at remote Internet Exchanges or directly with remote partners’ networks.

Virtual PoP: Customers can use Tinet MPLS network as an extension of their own and lease ports on Tinet routers to connect off-net customers, to peer at remote locations, to connect to VoIP carriers etc.

Starting at a committed data rate of 100 Mbps, the EPL service is the most suitable solution to cost efficiently support the rollout of new business at distant locations.

PRODUCT BENEFITS

Circuit Protection: Tinet uses MPLS “Fast Re-routing” facility for link protection across its network. In case of a link failure the traffic is re-routed over a pre-calculated alternative path within less than 50 ms.

Guaranteed Performance: MPLS Traffic Engineering delivers the reliable performance of SDH (guaranteed bandwidth, delay and re-routing time).

Cost Efficiency: Tinet’s EPL allows customers to peer at remote exchange points or to build a virtual point of presence with no need for to buy, collocate and support hardware at the remote end.

Scalability: EPL delivers bandwidth on-demand which overcomes the limitation of fixed bit rates typical of traditional leased lines.

Burst Capability: MPLS based, EPL offers burstable traffic support, a feature not available in traditional leased line services.

Cost Effectiveness: Customers pay for the bandwidth they actually use, and not for the full port capacity.

Point-to-Multipoint Services Made Cheaper: No need to buy multiple leased lines and to add up multiple dedicated interfaces, several EPL’s can bet set up over one single Ethernet port thus dramatically reducing overall hardware and maintenance costs.

SERVICE FEATURES

Point to Point - Point to Multipoint: Several Ethernet lines can be set up over one single Ethernet physical interface. VPLS guarantees any-to-any connectivity.

SLA: Proactive SLA with off-net guarantees.

Guaranteed  Latency: The round-trip-time is defined for each point to point link.

Bandwidth On Demand: Scalable bandwidth, in 1 Mbps increments, to meet unexpected traffic levels.

Billing: Flat rate or per-Mbps fees. Accounting is based on the 95th percentile algorithm.

Customer Support: 24x7 proactive monitoring and Help Desk.

Self Care:  On-line access to network performance and Customer service statistics.

Available Ports:Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 10Gigabit Ethernet

TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE EPL

Ethernet Private Line relies on the Pseudo Wire Encapsulation (PWE) standard based on draft- Martini (see Juniper’s “Layer-2 circuits” implementation).
Tinet can set up one or more channels that provide secure connectivity between two or more end-sites by using the same physical access pipe.
RSVP and LDP are the MPLS signalling protocols adopted end-to-end whilst path protection is guaranteed by the MPLS Fastreroute algorithm. VPLS is also supported end to end across Tinet backbone.
As EPL is a layer-2 service therefore our customers fully control the layer-3 (IP addressing, I-BGP, BGP, DNS). Also Tinet can carry any customer CoS from one location to another seamlessly, allowing you to implement CoS on layer3 for your customers if needed.
